Should I ?
It's a 14 hours ride from home, but I think it's worth it
A true 7 series competitor for a budget price ? Hell yes.
Any Opponauts with some Lincoln LS expertise ?
Yes, or YES ?

Yes. I wanted an LS V8, but then realized no manual was made. :-(

Manual swap is easy, though.

Get more pictures first. Or see if an Opponaut nearby can check it out. I know we have a few around there.

Is this a V8 or a 6?
Also why is it filed under Panthers? LS is not a Panther.
Lastly LS is not even same size as a 7 series. It's more of a 5 series competitor.

I think Cletus lives around there. And I used to live in the area (I'll be back in about two weeks), but would probably not be the best bet for checking out a car.

Yes, to make it work you must find the Getrag 5 speed with the same bolt pattern as the 3.0 v6. Only 500 ish made.. Actually I think the bolt pattern is different on the GenII v6 so scratch that. You would have to find a gen1 3.o engine and trans. The computers are completely different so it wouldnt work. You would then need to find a 3.0 Gen1 manual pcm which are rare as shit. The FEM and REm would no longer work. If you ever miraculously got it to run nothing would work. Impossible.

Electronics are already a nightmare. Transmission tunnel. Finding an adapter to mate a trans to the motor. Interior trim. Did I mention the electronics?

Well the Ls is not body on frame. American steel?, heck it has a lot of aluminium. Manual as an option? on a couple years only very little were ever made. It's more British than anything.

I don't think you quite know what the LS is. It's not a Panther, it's actually related to the Jag S-Type. Also, it was a competitor to the 5-series, not 7.

My mom owns an 03, the electronics were supplied along with the platform and powertrain basis were supplied by Jaguar. The electronic issues are so bad that the electrical engineer of the car should be tried at the Hague for violating the Geneva Convention.

Unibody.
Jaguar platform.
Smaller than the Panthers by a significant margin.
DOCH V8 not related at all to the Ford Mod motor family.
Aluminum body panels.
IRS.
Good handling.
Not at all reliable.

Mine has been pretty decent as well. Very few nice examples left though. Most of them I see are neglected and run into the ground. I only tell people to touch 06s if they really really want one.

Yes and about once every 3 weeks it throws a code. Oh, and the 5-speed automatic transmission is absolute garbage, unless you like feeling like your riding with a kid trying to learn how to shift.

Mine was an '04, but I recommend any of the 2nd gens if somebody asks. I've owned three first gens over the years, and only one of them wasn't a complete nightmare to maintain. It's a shame that the reliability sucked, the chassis is brilliant.

Yeah really is a shame. Got my first CEL in my 03 last week. I've had it for 2 years and it think I'm ready to sell going on 90,000 miles. I just don't feel like dealing with the cooling system. Luckily I got the COPs attended to while under the factory extended warranty, very little money into mine.

I've been through all the "normal" stuff with my various cars. The cooling system issues are quite easy to fix on the 2nd gen, mostly because the hydraulic fan was eliminated. My '04 only needed a new coolant reservoir at 150k miles. All of the plastic lines were still holding up well at that point, but it was at that point that I sold it.

By the way, Mr. Maxyenklo, You gave me my first chance as a writer on Jalopnik, and I owe you my life for that, but I feel that we are having a kerfuffle right now and it's far from good. That's not what I want.
I will read again what you said and sleep on it, I may have misundertood what you were trying to sy.
I really hope we can speak again in the morning, because I admire you a lot.

Meh. I would never want to live there. So city, so boring. Ottawa is much nicer, a lot more wilderness nearby.
